April showers

...of Paint markings! Thanks to everyone for your recent submissions. My inbox has been inundated with photos of interesting Paint markings! I'll do my best to stay caught up, but in the meantime, keep sending them in!

Have you ever been to your local drugstore shortly before any major holiday and checked out the holiday aisle? You've probably spotted this character, who dresses up for any occasion. Check out Snoopy, who rides alongside An Obvious Indian.

"I was recently soaking my mare's foot and had time to just look at her," writes Sue Cosens of Parker, Colorado, about her 1999 sorrel overo mare. "I noticed that her right stifle area sports a likeness of Snoopy. He is facing toward the rear and you can make out the nose, eye, mouth and ears (in an upward, surprised expression). It looks like there's something standing on his nose. Could it be a very slim Woodstock?"

With summer quickly approaching, you may be thinking about traveling. Perhaps you're considering a different country or continent?

" 'Bullseye' has continents on his sides," writes Emily Peak of Stapleton, Alabama. "On the left shoulder he has South America, and on the right is Africa."

This world traveler is Sharp Shootin Peppy, a 2005 bay tobiano stallion owned by Emily.

Continuing the fox and hound Connection is JK Hy Dollar, a 1995 sorrel overo gelding owned by Lila Feather of Le Roy, Minnesota.

"Our gelding has a mark on his belly that looks like a fox, as my husband says," writes Lila. "I see that too, but it also looks like the head of a horse."

More March markings!

In order to keep these posts from getting too long, I've broken up today's into two parts. See part one here.

This fine Paint is 1996 sorrel overo gelding Mr Fine Steele. "His barn name is 'Big'en,' " writes Mary Jennings. "We just purchased him last September, and the first thing we noticed was what appears to be a seahorse on his midsection. I hope it's not just our active imaginations!"

Mr Fine Steele is owned by Taylor Jennings of Manchester, Missouri.

Meet Spirit Of Shawnee, owned by Krista Eichner of Science Hill, Kentucky. "It's kind of funny that she was named after an Indian tribe, but has two cowboy boots walking across her side," writes Krista of her 1996 chestnut overo mare. "The first boot is closer to the topline of the back, and the second is at an angle below the first boot on the hip."

These boots were made for walkin'...

March to the end

Ready for more Markings Madness? If you aren't caught up, check out the first and second seeds in this colorful group of Paint Horses! Otherwise, read on to see the Paints that round out the group as March comes to a close. Be sure to send your Paint markings in before the month ends!

Meet Uvaldes Nu Sassy Doll, a 2003 dun tobiano mare. Here's what her owner, Tricia Reed of Puyallup, Washington, has to say: "We've always thought that 'Zena' has a half of a prancing horse—with the right leg up and the left front leg extended—down her nose on her head."

How about this cute puppy dog?

"Pandas Chey A Summer is an 11-year-old mare I lease from a friend—Carolyn Jean Lincoln [of Norton, Massachusetts]," writes Wendy Palmer of Windsor, Pennsylvania. "I live in Pennsylvania, so I sent her this picture and she pointed out the perfect dog head on her side with the ear going down her leg."

Pandas Chey A Summer is a 1998 black tovero mare owned by Lincoln.

Have any questions about this last one? Meet Call Me Rerun, a 1996 black tovero mare. " 'Poco' has one very large question mark on her rump, curving above her tail and extending down her hind leg," writes Vanessa Green of Mobile, Alabama, who owns the mare.
