Welcome to the American Paint Horse Association's (APHA) Paint Markings blog! Here you will be able to see all the Paint Markings photos sent in to APHA Connection!
APHA is the second-largest breed registry in the world based on the number of horses registered. While the colorful coat pattern is essential to the breed's identity, Paint Horses have strict bloodline requirements and a distinctive stock-horse body type. To be eligible for registry, a Paint's sire and dam must be registered with APHA, the American Quarter Horse Association, or the Jockey Club, and must have at least one Paint parent.
Each Paint Horse has a unique combination of white and a color, but is classified with one of three specific coat patterns: overo, tobiano and tovero. These colors, markings and patterns, combined with its stock conformation, athleticism and agreeable disposition, make the American Paint Horse a quality investment.
Show your love for the American Paint Horse by sending in your Paint Markings to mlarson@apha.com or mailing them to Attn: Megan Larson, 2800 Meacham Blvd., Fort Worth, TX 76137, and check back often to see what designs other Paint Horses sport!
Keep your eye out for lots more this week. A little filly tells me there will be lots and lots of love to come, as well as a bunch of animals and maybe a horse or two!
